Most leaders don’t need more advice to give.
They need better questions to ask.

The GROW model changed how I think about coaching conversations.
Here are the 4 steps:

1. Goal: What are we actually trying to achieve?
2. Reality: Where are we right now, honestly?
3. Options: What could we do? All of it, no filtering yet.
4. Way Forward: What will you do, and by when?

Four questions. That’s it.

The magic isn’t in the framework. It’s in the discipline of not skipping straight to the answer, which is every manager’s instinct.

Your job isn’t to solve it. It’s to help them find it.

In my experience, most leaders skip straight from Reality to Way Forward. They never even get to Options.

That’s where the real breakthroughs live and this is what separates good leaders from great leaders…. their ability to coach!
